Otley freemasons meet at Westbourne House which is situated on Bradford Road in Otley. There are 6 craft lodges that meet there with lodge or practise meetings taking place over the 5 nights of the week. ”Craft” lodges are the first starting point of any joining brother however there are many side degrees available to all once they have been initiated, passed and raised in the 3 degrees of freemasonry.
The Otley lodges that meet at Westbourne house are Alfred 306, Harewood 5667, Horsford 5339, Chevin 6848, Leodiensis 4029 and Royal Wharfedale 1108. The numbers refer to when the lodges were founded with those with the lowest numbers being the oldest. Alfred Lodge is one of the oldest lodges in the UK having been warranted on April 27th, 1795.
The Otley Lodges belong in The Province of Yorkshire West Riding which is under the jurisdiction of The United Grand Lodge of England. There are 48 Provinces within England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
The geography of Provinces is roughly based on the old county boundaries and each Province is presided over by a Provincial Grand Master, who is assisted by various Provincial officers.
Some of the many roles within a Province include a Provincial Charity Steward who looks after their charity activities. There’s also a Provincial Membership Officer who leads on recruitment and engagement of members, and a Provincial Communications Officer who leads the Provincial Communications team.
